Our most Frequently Asked Question is: What is the difference between your stone
sets and Brand X's Or, Why do your stones cost more than Brand X?
We believe in the old adage ‘You get what you pay for”, and our motto is “not
just a box of rocks”. At Desert Stone People we strive to be the best by
offering only tumbled stones*(see below)
Just as you can tell when you've eaten a meal prepared with love and intention,
you can tell the difference between stones handled in a sacred way and ones that
aren't. We put a lot of labor and love into each box of specially prepared
massage stones. Plus our stones are generally quite a bit larger than other
company's stones. Although the stones may look and be named similar in
photographs the difference becomes obvious when you compare weights of sets of
stones. There is one company offering a 53 piece stone set for under $40, the
set weighs approximately 9 pounds while our 54 piece stone set weighs on average
30 pounds. What this means to you as a therapist is that your client gets more
time with each stone, leaving you more time with your client and less at the
heating unit retrieving fresh, warm stones. The average size of massage stones
available in today's market range from pebbles like you would find in a fish
tank to silver dollar size. Desert Stone People 's sizes range from dime size up
to an extra-large pancake; with every stone in every set usable for treatments.
ALL of Desert Stone People 's stones are hand harvested. We then mechanically
tumble the stones for a period of time with sand and water to give the stones a
'patina' or smoother finish than available in its natural state. Most important
of all, you cannot properly sanitize non-tumbled stones. Bacteria can hide and
multiply in the pits and grooves of non-tumbled stone. Additionally, tumbling
the stones provides a safety factor for massaging with the stones as it is
basalt's nature to be somewhat pitted and rough.
Next, each and every stone is paired up with a twin. This provides for a
balanced feel to the therapist holding the stones and provides the client with
consistent temperatures (when the 'twins' are used at once during the massage).
I trust this information is valuable to you. We appreciate your order and know
you will enjoy our stones. Please stay in touch with us and share your stone
stories with our site visitors. Thanks.
Warm regards,
